Rose Fruit

Went to the cemetery yesterday to light a candle for André's 49th birthday and found the rose bush still vigorous, laden with a full bounty of hips.

Past years of mild weather have seen it surprisingly still in bloom at this time of year.  But I've never seen it quite so full of rosehips before!

  1. From Les:
Andre was in my thoughts this morning - even more so as I tried to copy some papers in a rush for urgent mailing. The ink reached empty. I could hear Andre laughing and retelling the story of how the ink reached empty on his printer while [not surprisingly] very close to the latest possible submission time, he was printing out the last pages of his thesis. I cant tell stories like Andre, but I hear him explaining how he swore at, coaxed, cajoled, and shook the printer to eke out the last drops of ink. To no avail: the last pages remained unprinted. Shops were closed and there was no prospect of getting ink. Finally, he found that he had a spare ink cartridge! But now that he had ink, the worry set in that the printer might have been irretrievably damaged by the treatment he had meted out to it.

As you know, the thesis got in on time [just!] and received the high praise his intellect and creative turn of mind deserved.

    Love
    Les

Hi Les, I remember that particular battle with the printer and its eventual happy conclusion. Quite an amazing feat! xx
